Napoleonic prisoner of war (POW) artifacts are highly intricate, handcrafted items ptoduced by French prisoners held in British hulks and prisons (C. 1794-1814) to alleviate boredom and earn money. They are famous for using scavenged materials, particularly beef/mutton bones, straw, wood, and human hair, to create detailed ship models, gaming sets, and straw-work boxes.
