Model 26 inches L x 18 1/2 H, 17 3/4 Hull

Circa 1800

This model rates as one of the finest examples of the art of prisoner-made models incarcerated in one of the 13 English prisons during the Napoleonic wars. Note the harbor scene on the stern gallery, along with fine carving and minute detail throughout. The figurehead is particularly fine and delicate- featuring the figure of a man balanced on one foot on a ball, holding a metal knife.

The hull is constructed of boxwood, baleen and copper, with additional baleen inlaid in the decks. The ornate stand is made of ivory on the stanchions and inlaid into the base with ebony, burled walnut and other woods. The brass case is also period, circa 1810.
