This cannon is a Sir Thomas Bloomfied design from the late 18th Century, England
A multi purpose gun that was used aboard ship. Because it sat in a swivel fork on the rail, and its size a single sailor could quickly pivot and aim the gun 360 degrees without hauling a heavy wheeled carriage to reple boarders. They were used by Pirates, Privateers, and Naval ships, for signaling other vessels, firing warning shots and to repel boarders etc.
This specific barrel length (22 to 24 inches) with a small bore was the exact size chosen for historical expeditions. For example, the famous swivel guns used on the Lewis and Clark expeditions measured exactly 22 inches in length. They packed these small-bore guns with 16 musket balls at a time to create a devastating shotgun effect to deter attachers.
